Monica has been in the industry for well over 10 years, and CONTINUES to keep up with the latest hairstyles. I love the fact that she isnt afraid to experiment with the long AND short lengths - at the same time!

HAIRBYALICIA HAIRBYALICIA

Meagan Good-
I am a personal fan of wearing a side bang, and as Meagan Good is photographed above in both photos, she PROVES that you can be sexy with lots of layers and length, as well as short and sleek!

HAIRBYALICIA HAIRBYALICIA

Lauren London-
The pompadour and side swept bang is here, and here to stay! Lauren rocks just that, and switches up to the simple - yet classy middle part, bone straight sleek ponytail.

HAIRBYALICIA HAIRBYALICIA

Keyshia Cole-
This woman has been a red head, a blondie, jet black, even orange! Who else can you think of that can pull off all of these colors and Still remain fashion forward and relevant??

HAIRBYALICIA HAIRBYALICIA

Alicia Keys-
I grew up knowing the Alicia Keys that only rocked Braids & Hair accessories. After many years of topping the charts, changing personal style, and becoming a mother, Alicia's hair choices along with personal style has come a long way. Besides, I ♥♥♥ her name!

HAIRBYALICIA HAIRBYALICIA

Tyra Banks-
Whether she decides to do the center part, or the side part is short blunt cut is HOTT!

My PERSONAL Hairstyle Choices ... Hope you Enjoy!! xoxo

Are you looking for a new hairstyle, but aren't quite sure what exactly? Braids are simple and last quite a while, but weaves can be so versatille. You can wear it straight, long, curl it, the options are limitless! Not to mention walking into a beauty supply store and seeing the variety of hair!! Indian, Yaki, Synthetic, Blended, Braidng Hair, Infusions, Curly Texture, Body Wave ... Does it give you a headache? Trust me, I have been there - done that!

I have dedicated this blog specifically for those of you who are in search of a new hairstyle, but aren't 100% on what it is that you want. I hope you enjoy my chosen selection! And be sure to remember, EVERYTHING you see, YES, I can absolutely do. Always executed perfectly ;) ...

Enjoy your weekend ladies. Be sure to bookmark this blog!

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Kim Kardashian-
I know a lot of people are biased towards Kim Kardashian, say what you may, but this woman can rock a hairstyle! She is known for her long locks, layers, and the "infamous" flair of the bangs she wears around her face. Not many people can pull off dark hair one day, and blonde the next - and still look FAB! +10 points for Kim.

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Lala Vasquez-
Another Celeb that I love! Very classy, well spoken, and hair is always to die for! Personally, I LOVE the short hair on Lala. It shapes her face well and believe it or not, this style is very easy to maintain! Now my inner diva LOVES long hair, so I can't lie... The long hairstyle with the big "Old Hollywood" curls is gorgeous!

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Gabrielle Union-
I ♥ the side ponytail with lots of curl and volume with the side swept bang! She should try this more often. By FAR my favorite. Gabrielle already has long hair, (relaxed), but tends to add length & color with extensions. Ending result - Beautiful.

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Taraji P. Henson-
Taraji has had this length of hair for a while now, and she continues to work it! I love the long length of her bang. Very sleek!

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Tamar Braxton-
Mrs. Bomb.com has definitely got it going on in the hair department. Her side swept bangs are always flawless, her chinese cut bang and layers around her face lay very flat and the overall looks always have so much body. As for her lace fronts, I'm not to much a fan of.

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Jada Pinkett*Smith-
Are you thinking of a bob for your next hairstyle? Check out Jada's! Though you can't see the back of her head, it stops just above her neck, and the front is left long. I also really like the longer look. It has lots of layers, which creates lots of body. You can curl, flip, bump or wear silky straight and still have lots of body.

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Rihanna-
Ok, so maybe Jada's bob is a little too long for you. How about Rihanna's? Easy to maintain, light on the head, and very prominently angles. My favorite would have to be the seond photo, a long bang covering her right eye, and short on the other side. +15 Points for you Rihanna.

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Letoya Luckett-
Although her signature style is the heavy side swept bang, she can rock a variety of styles! You may have noticed by now that I ♥ the side swept bang. :)

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

Wendy Raquel Robinson "Tasha Mack"-
For all of those who watch the tv show "The Game", I personally love the show, BUT am also checking to see what new hairstyle Ms. Tasha Mack will be rocking! Whether its curls with a hint if color, jet black and straight, or a bang with lots of layers, this woman can rock a hair-DO!

DEAD ENDS & HAIR BREAKAGE!

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA

A lot of hair breakage is too often due to leaving braids in too long, braided too tightly, or not properly hydrated before, during or after wearing ANY hairstyle for a long period of time.

HAIRBYALICIA

Brushing or combing too long, overly teasing the hair causes the hair to become weak. Excessive heat is a given! To minimize heat damage, try using a lower setting on your blow dryer, and hold it away from the hair about 4-6 inches. Chemical treatments tend to weaken the hair shaft and lead to breakage. Also, the lighter you color your hair away from its natural hue, the MORE damaging. The darker away from your natural hue is still damaging, but not as harsh as lighter colors.

STOP HAIR BREAKAGE

HAIRBYALICIA

Your hair can easily be transformed, while preventing any future damage.

1. Avoid wearing "too tight" hairstyles.
2. Use wide tooth combs when untangling your hair.
3. Always, ALWAYS condition your hair after every shampoo.
4. Use less harsh chemical relaxer products on your hair (if you relax).
5. Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks.
6. Avoid sleeping in scrunchies, headbands, or anything pulling too tight or restricting your hair from flowing.

I wish someone would have warned Ms. Naomi Campbell about hydrating the scalp and practicing healthy hair techniques. At this stage, it is safe to say that its a little toooooo late. :)

LET'S ALL GET RECONDITIONED!

One of the most EFFECTIVE ways to ensure that your tresses stay in tip top condition is by maintaining its moisture levels. To keep hair constantly moisturised, and bad hair at bay, NEVER underestimate the power of a good conditioner.

HAIRBYALICIAHAIRBYALICIA
HAIRBYALICIA

Most of us are now aware that African American hair is prone to dryness. One of the leading causes of breakage and split ends is thirsty and dehydrated tresses that take daily battering from harsh weather conditions, excessive heat from styling tools and poor hair maintenance.

By using hair conditioners regularly you can help combat dryness (along with other hair boosters such as a good diet and drinking plenty of water), but many of us dismiss the importance of a good conditioner. Instead, applying lots of oils, moisturizing lotions, only to be left with limp and greasy hair. Furthermore, replacing one for the other, and only conditioning once a week and thinking thats enough when we should be using a combination of conditioning products for different reasons.
THE ESSENTIALS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

LEAVE IN CONDITIONERS TO BE USED DAILY!

Leave-in conditioners are often overlooked, yet should be an imperative product in our hair stash. Traditional conditioners tend to be a bit more rich and thick in consistency, whereas leave in conditioners are often quite light and will help add moisture to dry hair.

REGULAR CONDITIONER - TO BE USED WEEKLY!

How many of us are still using the same conditioner from 5 years ago? If so, its definitely time to switch it up! Our hair changes in formation throughout our lifetime, so its only natural to switch up our products as well. So what are YOUR requirements? Is your hair relaxed, or quite light in texture? Is your hair thick and tightly coiled? These are a few things you should consider, and choose a product accordingly!

** As a general rule, conditioners that are effective contain soothing products (such as Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Jojoba and avocado). Those with "fro" like hair (relaxed or natural) are advised to wash and condition hair no more than two to three times a month. Shampoos strip the hair of its natural oils, and although a conditioner should coat the strands, many professionals along with myself agree that frequent washings offer no REAL benefit.

DEEP CONDITIONER - TO BE USED WEEKLY OR MONTHLY

As well as your regular conditioner, you should be using a DEEP conditioner once/twice a month to rescue hair from all the damages it receives from enviornmental factors, styling tools and the general wear and tear of everyday life.

Each hair strand is made up of 3 different layers. The outer layer provides a protect layer to the cortex. When the cuticle is damaged, it gives off the apperance of a dry & dehydrated scalp. Regular DEEP conditioning will counteract this problem by coating the cuticle!

Ladies I hope this blog leaves you feeling a bit more knowledgable about keeping your scalp hydrated and maintaining healthy flowing hair. Whether you choose to wear braids, a sew-in weave, or go natural - PLEASE be sure to protect your hair in the process. NO MORE DRY SCALPS!!! :)

xoxo, Alicia MISSHEALTHYHAIR
